Very interesting Podcast with Dr. Anne Goodchild on #thepostalhub.
It was exciting to hear about the studies and pilots which Dr. Goodchild has been doing over the last couple of years.
We in Europe often believe that alternative delivery concepts are purely European thinking, but Dr. Goodchild has conducted a series of very interesting studies over the last 4 to 5 years which proves us wrong, and which even give answers i.e., empirical data on some of the issues we Europeans have been discussing (without data) for years.
For me the most interesting data, as I have been claiming this for years, was the time savings drivers can achieve when residential lockers are installed. 30% less time spend on ringing bells, trying to find a friendly neighbor, get the delivery signed etc. That is good news and should really trigger wholehearted support from all carriers for this solution.
It is also good news in general, as we all know that public locker locations are limited, although in many countries there are still free locations, and that Out of Home solutions trigger secondary traffic from consignees picking up and returning parcels, which often generates far more emissions than consolidated delivery to said lockers may save.
Thanks to Ian Kerr for bringing us Dr. Goodchild.
