Position paper: New Legislative Framework | Ecommerce Europe

von | Sep. 9, 2025 | Verbandspositionen

Earlier this month, Ecommerce Europe contributed to the European Commission call for evidence on the revision of the NewLegislativeFramework.

👉The NLF is a cornerstone of the EU product acquis, setting general principles and serving as a blueprint for product legislation.
🚨However, the boom of digital commerce, the increase in international competition, and the strengthening of the SingleMarket showed the limitations of the current framework.
⚠️It is urgent and necessary to update the NLF to make it fit-for-purpose and future-proof..

We notably call on the Commission to:

✔️ Streamline definitions and rules of the EU product acquis, with a focus on strengthening enforcement

✔️ Improve the uptake of digitalisation and ecommerce

✔️ Adapt the framework to the CircularEconomy

Only then, the NLF will be able to address the urgent challenges resulting from the overflow of non-compliant products imported into the EU, endangering European businesses, consumers and the transition to the circular economy.

These points are detailed in the full position paper below 👇
