UPU: 100 days to opening

Following the resolution of the 27th UPU Congress in Abidjan, 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗨𝗣𝗨) 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿. The body representing wider postal sector #stakeholders at the UPU is its Consultative Committee (#UPU #CC).
The new UPU #treaty comes into force on 1 July 2022, with the UPU CC being upgraded to reflect these #changes. From this date, the reformed UPU CC will enable all players in the #postalmarket to become involved in the work of the UPU. This includes access to UPU #products and #services – especially where there is direct or indirect #cooperation with designated #postaloperators (DO) – allowing wider #postalstakeholders to provide #postalservices compliant with the UPU treaties.
The opening of the UPU CC comes at a time when the UPU is implementing its first data-driven #strategy, and twinning this strategy with #sustainability and inclusion. The UPU’s Member Countries have decided to make the UPU the (1) #global postal sector’s primary forum, (2) a #provider of affordable #technicalsolutions, and (3) a #knowledge centre, as the best means of ensuring that customers‘ changing needs can be satisfied.
Integrating the wider postal #industrystakeholders into the work of the UPU is essential if these #strategicgoals are to be attained. The UPU has committed to becoming the global unifier of #networks and #services, and guaranteeing the free circulation of #postalitems within a single postal territory composed of #interconnected networks. Efforts to encourage the adoption of fair #commonstandards and the use of technology for products and services which reduce #greenhousegases in the #globalpostalsector can only be achieved by actively involving the wider postal sector stakeholders, aligning with the #marketplace, and meeting #customerexpectations.
The UPU CC will use the next 100 days to prepare for its new role of ensuring #cooperation and #interaction among the wider postal stakeholders, UPU Member Countries, and DOs. Its actions reflect the resolutions passed at the Abidjan #Congress last summer and will soon be adopted by the Consultative Committee itself and the Member Countries.
Wider postal sector stakeholders keen to engage in #effective #technical #cooperation are already approaching the UPU and applying for UPU CC #membership. This will enable the UPU to develop efficient and #accessible universal postal services, to create a truly inclusive universal postal network, and to ensure #customersatisfaction.
