Thais could be an indication of how hard it is for small public parcel locker operators to gain market share, but with the sale of the Smartmile locker in Holland to DHL, it could „just“ be a pure Dutch problem.
Instabox, Smartmile and MYFLEXBOX are all trying to gain market share in Germany, with Instabox being the only carrier operator, the other two are purely parcel locker operators.
A test of business model and/or a test of what it takes to enter a market as big as Germany?
The three small operators above could see more and better equipped ($) competition also entering the market in the near future, and, still up in the air, the new German USO could end up giving DHL a kind of monopoly on locations. It will be interesting to follow who the winners and losers of the German market, and almost all other Western European markets will be.
Any comments?
