Standardizing digital commerce is now an EU strategic priority
The most significant, long-term impact of the new #EU #eCommerce VAT package will be to completely digitalize #commerce. Online merchants and marketplaces now have all the #digital #data they need to operate multiple sales and logistics channels, ensure transport security, and manage #VAT and #customs clearance – provided these data are clearly specified.
The EU has made the development of new Postal Standards a strategic priority for cross-border parcel delivery (EU 2018/644). Technical standardization will improve quality of service, ensure interoperability between Postal and commercial stakeholders throughout the value chain, and support an efficient universal service.
What are the main objectives of the new EU standardization programme?
After the successful completion of the 4th Mandate to the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) last autumn (www.centc331.eu), the new standardization programme focuses on the interests of users, environmental considerations, the accelerated pace of digitalization, and the efficiency of postal services in the EU.
This is a key step towards the full digitalization of all transport modes in 2024, and the creation of the EU’s Digital Single Market. The CLS Commerce Logistics Specialists are actively helping to shape these standards at the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and European Standardization (CEN).
