Saving CO2 while sleeping?
At AEB, hotel stays on business trips accounted for about 5% of total CO2e consumption before the Covid pandemic. So why not save carbon emissions virtually while sleeping? To achieve this, we evaluate and recommend climate-friendly hotels for our employees on business trips.
As most of the travel takes place between our locations, we focus on hotels in their surrounding. The system works as follows: We look at the average CO2 consumption of an overnight hotel stay and recommend hotels that are as far below this value as possible and located as close as possible to our facilities. For hotels that do not yet know their CO2 consumption, we try to evaluate the current climate protection measures and, in the case of a positive evaluation, list these in our intranet.
A reduction of 25% of the footprint caused by hotel stays would save 18 t CO2e. This is equivalent to the climate-friendly annual budget of 12 people or the annual CO2 binding of 1440 trees.
So, by booking a climate-friendly hotel, everyone can reduce his/her carbon footprint virtually while sleeping.
