Report on „Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age“ adopted with a broad majority
My report on „Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age“ for the special #AI committee (AIDA) in the European Parliament has just been adopted with a broad majority (25+/2-/6o).
You can find the adopted compromises below, which includes the Roadmap for the EU to become a global leader in AI including
– a favorable regulatory framework for human-centric, trustworthy AI
– the completion of the digital single market
– a strong and secure digital green infrastructure
– an „Ecosystem of excellence“ to provide our citizens with access to digital skills
– an „Ecosystem of trust“ to promote the secure use of AI in government and the health sector
– an AI Industry Strategy
– and AI use in Security
Huge thanks also to my team Greta Koch and Kai Zenner for their incredible work.
With the AIDA report we clearly show: AI will be a booster to digitalization and a game-changer in the global digital competition, and our AI roadmap is a game-changer for the EU to take the lead in AI.
The EU now has the unique chance to promote a human-centric and trustworthy approach to AI based on fundamental rights that manages risks while taking full advantage of the benefits AI can bring for the whole of society – including in healthcare, sustainability, the labour market, competitiveness and security.
In order to be competitive in AI, reap its benefits and to play a leading role, we need a legal framework that leaves space for innovation, we need a harmonised digital single market with clear standards, we need maximum investment and we need a strong, robust and sustainable digital infrastructure with access to all citizens. We need to make sure not to leave anyone behind in the digital transition and provide our citizens with the necessary skills, also to retain AI talent and boost our innovative capacities. We need political will, set clear priorities and join forces, in order to speed up and create truly European projects for our digital survival.
