Who should be a member of the new UPU Consultative Committee, and why?
Following the resolutions of the 27th UPU Congress in Abidjan, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 (#𝗨𝗣𝗨) 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿. The UPU Consultative Committee (#CC) is the UPU body representing the wider #postalsector players.
The new UPU #treaties will come into force in mid-2022, with the UPU CC being upgraded to reflect these #changes: the new UPU CC will enable all players in the #postalmarket to become involved in the work of the UPU, and to gain access to its #products and #services, especially where there is direct or indirect cooperation with #designatedpostaloperators (DO) providing postal services compliant with the UPU treaties.
The opening of the UPU CC comes at a time in which the UPU is implementing its first data-driven #strategy. The UPU will become the global postal sector’s primary forum, provider of affordable #technicalsolutions, and #knowledgecentre.
Integrating the wider postal industry players into the work of the UPU is essential to attaining these #strategicgoals. The UPU will become the global unifier of #networks and services, guaranteeing the free circulation of postal items over a #singlepostalterritory composed of interconnected networks. Its efforts to encourage the adoption of #faircommonstandards and the use of #technology for products and services to reduce greenhouse gases in the global postal sector can only be achieved by actively involving the wider postal sector #stakeholders, aligning with the #marketplace, and meeting #customerexpectations.
The role of the UPU CC is to ensure cooperation and interaction among the wider postal stakeholders, the UPU member countries, and DOs. Effective #technicalcooperation will enable the UPU to facilitate sustained development of efficient and accessible universal postal services, establishing a truly inclusive universal postal network and ensuring #customersatisfaction.
