Mentions of onshoring buzzwords in earnings calls and presentations of U.S. public companies
If one other thing could be considered certain in life, beyond taxes and death, it just might be that buzzwords are meaningless. But when the cause of a series of buzzwords is a pandemic or a geopolitical crisis (or both!), we think it may just also be certain that there is an exception to every rule.
Looking at earnings calls and presentations of US public companies across the last 10 quarters, something very telling emerges. The buzzwords ’nearshoring‘, ‚reshoring‘, and ‚onshoring‘ were close to non-existent in Q1 of 2020. And once we hit a new geopolitical low in Q1 of 2022, the terms began spiking like never before. Have a closer look at the visual below.
We think that, unlike most others, these buzzwords are actually worth paying attention to. Why? Because they are symptoms of a cause, which is the greater-than-ever need for supply chain resilience.
Together with shifts toward just-in-case inventory management, and greater supply chain transparency, nearshoring (and its cohort
of buzzwords) are key issues worth discussing at the Re-Imagining Logist!cs 2022 event – with you!
