Pretty good article describing why some cities have realized, that bicycle deliveries doesn’t automatically solve all traffic problems.
If cities are serious about doing most of the parcel deliveries with bicycles, they need to get serious about a new layout of the streets. And that is probably only possible if the cities become (partly) car free.
It could be the time to start thinking about regulating the use of our streets during all 24 hours of the day, with commercial traffic being banned during “pedestrian hours” and deliveries being done as unattended delivery into private residential parcel boxes, public lockers or with digital building access outside of normal opening hours.
We must get away from concentrating all activities into the hours from 08:00 to 16:00 as is the case today.
