✔ Cross-border #ecommerce is subject to increasing #compliance #requirements associated with #digitalization and purchasing #fragmentation

Digitally interconnecting essential #supplychain processes such as #customs and #importduties, and indirectly related topics such as #sustainability, the #circulareconomy, and #wastemanagement, have significantly increased the #demands made of stakeholders along the ecommerce supply chain. As a result, the exchange of standardized and harmonized electronic data (#EAD) sent in advance to competent authorities is becoming mandatory. The EU has traditionally played a pioneering role in the field of #digital compliance and is driving these developments.

✔ ERGP (European Regulators Group for Postal Services) to engage with #stakeholders on 27 September 2023

The ERGP is an advisory group to the #EuropeanCommission and helps consolidate the internal #postalservices market by facilitating #cooperation between the independent National Regulatory Authorities (#NRA) and the Commission. It is important to note that in the EU “postal services” are broadly defined, including all commercial #express and parcel #serviceproviders, as well as other service providers in #parcel #logistics.

A key topic under discussion by #regulators and stakeholders is digitalization and compliance #issues. Digitalization has a major impact on the #singlemarket for postal services, and regulation is required to respond to the new #legalframework with the necessary speed.

As numbers of #consignments imported across the EU customs border have decreased significantly in recent months, there is clearly room for #improvement. #Disruptions such as those caused by the introduction of the #VATpackage and  Import Control Systems should be avoided in future. 

✔ EC-funded analysis of the current legal, regulatory, and standards framework

In response to the increasing #landscapecomplexity, #EU4Digital (eufordigital.eu) has produced an EU eCommerce #baseline report in the legal, #standards and ecommerce ecosystem areas. It is designed to as an aid for overcoming complexity and was drawn up by an EY-led consortium with extensive involvement by CLS / Walter Trezek.

The EC’s ecommerce report has been developed to #harmonize cross-border ecommerce between the Eastern partner countries and the EU. It provides a comprehensive overview of the legal and #regulatoryframework and the relevant standards and #ecosystems being deployed, including global (#UPU, #WCO, #ISO) treaties, and compliance and conformity between the different applicable legal sources.
