New UPU/CC member from France: DPDgroup
As of 1 July 2022, #postal stakeholders that are not #public postal #operators or #regulators can become #directmembers of and participate actively in the work of the Universal Postal Union (#UPU) and cooperate within the UPU #framework with other UPU #members and through the Consultative Committee (#CC). We will continuously #report on new members in this #series and comment accordingly.
Endorsed by the French Republic, DPDgroup, the parcel delivery #network of GeoPost (holding company owned by La Post Groupe) has become a new member of the growing UPU CC. Working under its #DPD, Chronopost, SEUR (Spain) and BRT (Italy) brands, the #goal of the DPDgroup is to act as a #model for #sustainable delivery and become a #leading enabler of #ecommerce #acceleration. In 2021, the GeoPost/DPDgroup was operating in nearly 50 countries where it delivered 2.1 billion #parcels (home delivery and via 70,000+ pickup points).
According DPDgroup, “DPDgroup’s network has evolved from a multi-domestic model to an internationally interconnected model, enabling DPDgroup to offer #solutions to the #intercontinental #ecommercemarket. DPDgroup looks forward to contributing to the #development of a more #globalvision of the current topical #issues influencing the #postal #sector.”

“The consultative committee represents an unique #opportunity for #dialogue, and may bring additional #insights to the UPU in areas such as #policy and #regulations, #transport, or ecommerce,” says DPDgroup. This clearly shows that the global #market #player in the #CEP industry shares the vision of the UPU: the postal sector is more than just an #association of designated postal operators.
The UPU, as an association of 192 countries and a unifier of #networks and #services, is gradually establishing a harmonized model/ #IT #ecosystem for cross-border ecommerce #globally. The DPDgroup’s UPU CC membership proves that this is also increasingly being recognised by major players in the market, and that the #future of the sector lies in increased #cooperation and #exchange between designated #operators and wider #stakeholders.
