While the #pandemic has resulted in all time peaks in #B2C #supply #volumes worldwide, the current “triple F crisis” -> FUEL / FOOD / FINANCIAL -> has caused disposable #incomes to shrink in developed countries around the world.

The first half of 2022 has shown that when #shopping for the best deal available, consumers go #online. The pandemic of the last 2 years has had a lasting effect on #consumers, and electronic interfaces (#marketplaces/webshops/websites) which offered their customers the greatest #choice and #transparency and the highest levels of #trust and #customerservice, have gained #marketshare and increased #turnover and #revenue.

#Choice and #competitiveprices will increasingly drive consumers towards #digitalretail. Major #retail #chains are switching to #hybrid operations (digitally interconnected #inventorymanagement, with #outlets used as micro #fulfillment hubs/click & collect/pick-up locations), and ¾ of #inventories are already managed by interconnected #fulfillment and supply chain #infrastructures. As a result, falling levels of disposable income will further drive #digitalization in retail.

#Retailers who have retained #ownership of their inventory #data can now choose the #downstream option which serves their customers best, whether customs and #tax options, #product #compliance and #conformity, or #sustainability. All these factors must be handled by anyone offering B2C supplies, so that data ownership will rapidly determine whether a retailer can remain #competitive and increase #efficiency or will increasingly depend on others who #control the data and #business processes.
𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
The mandatory advance data for any B2C supply have already been harmonized and #standardized. They cover pre-lodged customs and #duties; pre-loading advanced information for #transport and #logistic modes; e-documentation of conformity and compliance with the #regulations at the country of destination at #merchandise level; the party #identification of those involved in the supply chain; and unique transport #ID issued to #track and trace each individual #consignment, nationally, regionally and globally.
Those ignoring this #digitaltransformation are sealing their fates. The many #CEP operators who have failed to digitalize their #operations will be hit hard, while the forward-looking will ride the waves of #change.
