We are convinced that someย #playersย in the brick-and-mortar retailย #sectorย will succeed in becoming trueย #omnichannelย providers, provided they acquire the necessary digitalย #competenceย and upgrade their ecommerceย #servicequality. However, theย #successย of thisย #businessmodelย depends onย #optimizingย their own intra-logistics, supplementing the stores with logistics functionalities (micro-hubs) so that existing last-mile logistics serviceย #providersย can be connected,ย #digitallyย managed by the retailer.
This will not help brick-and-mortar retailers, who see ecommerce only as an „additional mainstay“ and who continue to rely onย #storesย as their most importantย #saleschannel. Asย #consumersย have less and lessย #disposableincome, we expect the currentย #crisisย to further intensifyย #priceย #competition, also enabled by further efficiency gains thanks to ever-evolvingย #digitization. Sales via stores will not be able to keep pace with thisย #development, even when there will be niches for local / high-pricedย #offerings.
