In Germany, DPD and Hermes (PostNLโs network partner in DE) are currently battling โdifficult market conditionsโ, โhigher costsโ, and โchanging Hashtagcustomer behaviourโ. While Hashtagcompetitors are currently growing their Hashtagmarketshare, these two HashtagCEP Hashtagoperators are facing significant obstacles, possibly resulting in Hashtaglayoffs and spending cuts. Quick to recognise the emerging electronic advanced data-driven (HashtagEAD), recipient-focused Hashtagecommerce delivery market, around a decade ago HashtagDPD designed and built its own highly automated, data-driven, multicarrier-enabled sorting and Hashtagdistribution centre in the DACH region. At this point, DPD was clearly Europeโs Hashtagtechnology and Hashtagmarketleader in the CEP sector. CEP Hashtagstandardisation even followed this lighthouse example, creating a harmonised European Hashtagparcel label, mapping proprietary Hashtagdata silos, and creating a common delivery data structure in Europe.

However, as end-to-end Hashtagdigitalisation and data Hashtagharmonisation drives European parcel delivery, DPD appears to be downgrading its once fully automated, multicarrier-capable Hashtagworkflows to semi-digitalized and more analogue-driven Hashtagproduction โ a situation similar at Hermes. In contrast, their competitors in the DACH region are forging ahead with even greater data harmonisation for better network and solution connectivity.

The Hashtagparceldelivery operators leading todayโs Hashtagecommerce delivery, and who manage up to x4 the Hashtagvolumes the DACH region currently sees, went through their own Hashtagdigital resets with the start of the HashtagCOVID-19 Hashtagpandemic. This gave them the flexibility to respond to difficult Hashtagmarketconditions, and Hashtagbenefit from 30% to 40% Hashtagcostreductions, much greater & measurable Hashtagefficiency, and direct Hashtaginterconnectivity to end-recipients in a multicarrier Hashtaglastmiledelivery environment.
This big reset in parcel delivery will leave behind all operators failing to recognise the (Hashtaglegal) demand for well documented, HashtagEAD-driven, recipient-focused ecommerce delivery. HashtagDPD in Germany and HashtagPostNL network Partner Hermes are only the first to face the impact of breaks in their digital delivery chain.
This big Hashtagreset not only affects the Hashtagbusinessmodels of Hashtagcommercial parcel services, but is also changing the entire Hashtaglogisticsindustry.
